Some are taking advantage of the opening weekend of eased COVID restrictions throughout North Carolina that by going out to restaurants, bars and movie theaters.
Theaters like Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Raleigh, where signs are lit up again and owners hope increased capacity limits mean more ticket sales.
Stepping inside a movie theater feels like a new world to Pinehurst resident Christy Baker.
"It's going to be weird going back in there," Baker said.
She and her friends, including Hannah Russell, made the trek from Pinehurst to Raleigh for a showing of Little Shop of Horrors. Russell said this was her first time being back inside a theater since the pandemic began.
The venues can now operate at 50% capacity under Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has 11 screens ranging from 49 to 109 seats.
Movie-goer Walker Shore says theaters can be a safe environment for people looking for entertainment.
"I think it's just common knowledge, wear a mask, be socially distant, making sure everyone is safe," Shore said.
Guests at Alamo Drafthouse tell WRAL you have to make appointments and select your seat online.
