Here are some of the new films being released in theaters or for streaming, rental or purchase this week.

“Cherry”

The Russo Brothers (two Avengers and Captain America movies) get serious in a drama, based on Nico Walker’s novel, starring Tom Holland as a vet with post-traumatic stress who becomes an addict and bank robber.

Rated R. Opens March 12 at Cinemark Memorial City, Houston; begins streaming March 12 on AppleTV+.

“Come True”

Canadian horror film in which a woman’s sleep study turns into a nightmare.

Unrated. Opens March 12 at iPic Houston.

“Cosmic Sin”

In the near-future, Frank Grillo and Bruce Willis are soldiers launching a preemptive attack on a hostile alien civilization.

Rated R. Opens March 12 at Studio Movie Grill Pearland; Begins streaming March 12 on various platforms.

“Dolphin Island”

After losing her parents, a girl comes of age on a Caribbean island surrounded by her quirky extended family.

Rated TV-Y7. Streaming through iTunes, GooglePlay, FandangoNow, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and other platforms.

“Dutch”

This crime thriller is intended to be the first of a trilogy about a New Jersey car thief who becomes a feared crime boss and the district attorney who wants to take him down. Lance Gross, Malcolm David Kelley, Jeremy Meeks and Macy Gray star.

“The Father”

Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman turn in strong performances in this drama involving an increasingly testy father-daughter relationship and his increasing dementia.

Rated PG-13. Opens March 12 throughout Houston.

“Film About a Father Who”

Filmmaker Lynne Sachs filmed her father over the course of 35 years, from 1984 to 2019, and this is the result.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 12 through mfah.org/virtualcinema.

“Gaali Sampath”

Telugu-language drama from India in which a friendship between a young man and an elderly man is tested when the former falls in love with a young woman.

Unrated. Opens March 12 at Cinemark Memorial City, Houston; Cinemark 19, Katy; Cut! By Cinemark Cypress.

“Kid 90”

Documentary looking at the lives of young stars in the 90s including Soleil Moon Frye (who compiled the footage), Brian Austin Green, David Arquette, Heather McComb and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 12 on Hulu.

“The Last Blockbuster”

The last remaining Blockbuster video store location in Bend, Ore. is the subject of this documentary.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 15 on Netflix.

“Long Weekend”

Finn Wittrock (“Ratched,” “American Horror Story”) and Zoë Chao (“The High Note”) star in this romantic comedy about a struggling writer who meets a mysterious woman at the right moment in his life.

Rated R. Opens March 12 throughout Houston.

“Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal”

Chris Smith who made “Fyre,” one of the two main Fyre Festival documentaries, returns with an examination of the the college-admissions scandal that embroiled so many celebrities.

Rated R. Begins streaming March 12 on Netflix.

“Own the Room”

A documentary in which five students compete against each other in the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 12 on Disney+.

“Paper Lives”

Turkish drama about a man who runs a solid-waste warehouse and helps those in the neighborhood.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 12 on Netflix.

“Piola”

Luis Perez Garcia’s film from Spain about the friendship between two rappers.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 12 on Netflix.

“Roohi”

Rajkummar Rao, who played the yuppie in “White Tiger,” stars in this Hindi-language horror-comedy from India.

Unrated. Opens March 12 AMC Yorktown, Houston

“SAS: Red Notice”

Action-thriller set aboard the Channel train between England and France that’s attacked by a criminal gang.

Rated R. Begins streaming March 12 on various platforms.

“Sreekaram”

Telugu-language film from India.

Unrated. Opens March 12 at Cinemark 19, Katy; Cinemark Memorial City, Houston; Cinemark 17, The Woodlands; Cut! By Cinemark Cypress.

“Stray”

The 2017 documentary “Kedi” turned a spotlight on stray cats in Istanbul. Now, this 2020 doc does the same with dogs.

“With: A Journey to the Slow Life”

The “slow food” movement has been around for some time but this documentary explores the world of people who take this approach of savoring every moment and apply to all parts of their lives.

Unrated. Begins streaming March 16 on Apple TV.

“Wounded Heroes”

Documentary in which soldiers suffering post-traumatic stress talk about how they are often mistreated by the medical system.

Unrated. Streaming through Amazon, Vimeo on Demand, GooglePlay and iTunes.

“Yes Day”

A comedy with Jennifer Garner and Edgar Ramirez playing a couple who decide to give their children one day to do whatever they want.

Rated PG. Begins streaming March 12 on Netflix.
