It’s not yet Halloween but it’s already time to get in the winter holiday spirit.
The first Lifetime holiday film of the season, “Christmas on Ice," will premiere Oct. 23. And it might look a little familiar.
“Christmas on Ice” was filmed in Worcester earlier this year. The town name in the movie is also Worcester.
“We’re showing the common. We’re showing City Hall. We’re showing all these landmarks in downtown Worcester and we’re shining such a lovely and positive light on the city, we just figured, why not, let’s just call it Worcester,” filmmaker John Stimpson said. “So we are.”
The movie is said to include Mayor Joseph Petty playing the role of a city councilor and scenes shot at Birchtree Bread, the Worcester Ice Center and within City Hall. Birchtree Bread is where Stimpson often sat and wrote the script for the movie.
The movie has had a couple of names.
Originally, Stimpson wanted to call the movie “Christmas on the Common,” but then changed to “A Christmas Pirouette.” Now it’s being marketed as “Christmas on Ice.”
The plot revolves around a young woman who manages the skating rink in the common. The mayor, not played by Petty, informs her the oval will be closed because of budget cuts. In trying to save the oval, she falls in love with a hockey player who trains at the ice center in the Canal District.
Stimpson recently shared the trailer on Instagram.
The movie is part of this year’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” lineup. Other holiday movies on Lifetime this weekend will include “Christmas Unwrapped" and “Forever Christmas.”
