More industries are preparing to reopen their businesses as Hoosiers get ready for the next phase of Governor Eric Holcomb's reopening plan. Two businesses that many are looking forward to opening are movie theaters and gyms.
The Brokaw Movie House in Angola is one of the theaters planning to start showing movies on the 24th. ABC21 spoke with the general manager of the theater, David Benson, about how they were preparing to reopen.
Benson told us that there wasn't much guidance given to movie theaters as they prepared to reopen. He said there also isn’t a theater organization to help them with suggesting ideas and guidelines on reopening. So they had to figure it out on their own.
"What we have done is take bits and pieces from restaurants, other public-oriented businesses. We feel like a football coach trying to put together our playbook and go from there" Benson said.
They've placed sneeze guards up at their concession stands and bars. Brokaw also plans to enforce social distancing. There are signs around the lobby reminding moviegoers to social distance and to be mindful of the stanchions.
They will also enforce social distancing with the staff. It’s asked that moviegoers keep in mind that ticket/concession lines will not be moving as quickly as normal due to social distancing protocols mandated by the state.
Another industry of businesses preparing to reopen is gyms. The owner of Sud'n Impact Gym in downtown Fort Wayne has taken precautions for when they reopen.
They've ordered extra spray bottles and towels to place at workout stations for cleaning in between users. They have also placed signs on the equipment to remind people to clean the weights and machines. The owner says most people simply forget to clean the equipment.
They’ve closed some of their cardio equipment so the people are able to properly distance. They will also be getting rid of some of the equipment within the weight room so that they can space out some of the machines.
In phase three of this plan, both movie theaters and gyms are only allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity.
