Movie QUIZ - Albany Times Union

Our current crisis has caused the shutdown of nearly everything, resulting in outcomes from the tragic to the mundane. And somewhere right in the middle of all that is "The Prom." Tis the season, after all.

But "what about prom (movies), Blane?!" Well, they'll always be with us. So even if you can't leave the house, you can put on your best gown or tux, slap on that corsage and take our latest movie quiz about the Big Dance on the Big Screen.

1. Not to start on a dark note, but one of the most memorable prom scenes in film history is the bloody, lethal climax of 1976's "Carrie." The slaughterhouse where Carrie's bullies retrieve the pig's blood that drops on her during the dance, and the high school the telekinetic teen attends, are both named in honor of another horror movie classic. What is it?

2. Two years after starring in "Halloween," Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the horror world for 1980's slasher flick "Prom Night." In the latter film her father was played by a veteran actor who had another movie in theaters at the same time, a comedy that reignited his career. Name the actor and the movie.

3. George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) and Mary Hatch (Donna Reed) Charleston themselves right into the swimming pool under the gym floor at the high school prom in 1946's "It's a Wonderful Life." But what then-grown former child star played Hatch's jilted date who caused the floor to open?

4. All-time prom movie "Pretty in Pink" is named after a song by The Psychedelic Furs, and fellow new wavers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark had a hit with the final scene's "If You Leave." But what is the classic soul song that Duckie (Jon Cryer) lip syncs and dances to in the record store earlier in the movie?

5. Former ballet dancer and choreographer Herbert Ross directed many films with or about dancing, including "The Turning Point," "Nijinsky," "The Goodbye Girl," "Pennies from Heaven," "Dancers" and what 1984 hit that ends with a historic prom?

6. What Hollywood legend played herself in 1943's "Best Foot Forward," where the cinematic version of her accepted an invitation to a military academy prom?

7. Movies like "American Pie," "Superbad" and "Porky's" revolved around high school boys trying to lose their virginity before graduating high school. What 2018 comedy switched the genders and showed three girls vowing to have sex on prom night?

8. What star appeared in prom scenes in the movies "She's All That," "10 Things I Hate About You," "Love & Basketball" and "Almost Christmas"?

9. Drew Barrymore gives a dramatic speech at the prom after being exposed as a reporter posing as a high school student in "Never Been Kissed." But which movie multi-hyphenate and future Oscar nominee made his big-screen debut as one of her "classmates"?

10. In 1986's "Peggy Sue Got Married," Nicolas Cage plays a middle-aged former prom king. In what other film does Cage beat up a prom king during the dance and make off with the queen?
