CLEVELAND, Ohio – What’s the scariest movie ever?
Apparently it’s “Sinister.”
That’s according to the folks at British company broadbandchoices.com, who took a scientific eye to critics' lists and employed 50 test subjects to watch more than 120 hours of scary movies in Surround Sound. Each movie watcher wore a heart-rate monitor to gauge which movies got their blood pumping. The “science of scare” study was done in September.
“Sinister,” a 2012 movie starring Ethan Hawke, is about a true-crime writer who moves into a house with his family and discovers films of various murders.
A calibration of 65 resting heartbeats per minute was charted, with average BPM and highest spike recorded for each movie.
“Sinister” had an average of 86 BPM with its highest jump of 131 recorded.
The rest of the top 10:
2."Insidious," 2010
3. “The Conjuring,” 2013
4. “Herediatary,” 2018
5. “Paranormal Activity,” 2007
