NEW CANAAN — The set of “The Noel Diary,” a Christmas movie produced for Netflix, transformed the downtown area in front of town hall into a wintertime set complete with fake snow.

Only the holiday is still six months away, and temperatures hovering in the mid-80s have residents crowding state beaches, rather than reaching for winter coats.

The movie stars Justin Hartley, better known for his role as Kevin Pearson in the NBC series “This is Us,” and is directed by Charles Shyer (“Father of the Bride”).

Hartley plays a man who finds a diary with secrets to his past while settling his late mother’s affairs. He meets a young woman and the pair’s relationship takes a turn during a Christmas festival filmed in New Canaan.

Netflix has also used other towns in the state as filming locations for the movie, including Darien, Essex, Westport and Southport.

New Canaan has been featured as a location setting for other feature films throughout the years, including 2008’s “Revolutionary Road,” which reunited “Titanic” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, and 2004’s “The Stepford Wives,” starring Nicole Kidman.
