Jon Hamm is the latest example of Worcester’s burgeoning reputation as a paradise for Hollywood films.
The actor is expected to be in Worcester next week for the filming of a remake called “Confess, Fletch”.
The project, unveiled last year by Miramax, is based on the second book in Gregory McDonald series, “Confess Fletch”, according to Variety.
Work on the movie in Worcester is expected to take place on Tuesday at Suffolk Street near Cicero’s Cafe from about 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The one-day shoot is expected to be one of several that “Confess, Fletch” will shoot in Worcester.
Hamm is pegged to play as the quick-witted investigative reporter originally played by Chevy Chase in the 1985 production of “Fletch” and its sequel “Fletch Lives.”
According IMDB, the plot to “Confess, Fletch” involves the main character, Fletch, becoming the prime suspect in multiple murders, then tries to prove his innocence while at the same time searching for his fiancé's stolen art collection.
Hollywood film productions have found a home in Worcester after Massachusetts rolled out new tax incentives aimed at luring the industry. While big names like Hamm, George Clooney and Ryan Reynolds attract most of the attention when they get to Worcester, the crews on set are mostly made up of local audio, visual and scene production professionals.
Since the inception of the tax credit, at least 38 motion pictures and television series were shot in Worcester, according to the Massachusetts Film Office. Prior to 2006, there were only three.

Hamm is the latest big name to grab the attention of Central Massachusetts. Earlier this year, George Clooney arrived in Worcester to direct the “Tender Bar” at the old Commerce High School on Walnut Street.

In May, the crews from “Dexter” transformed Colby Avenue in Worcester from warm and sunny to a frigid landscape full of snow and Christmas decorations.
