The complex, poetic dialogue of plays written by William Shakespeare often require actors to have a certain level of talent and training to perform them. Opportunities to hone and display that skill in theater productions abound around the world. In fact, the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival just wrapped up last month.
But film adaptations of Shakespeare’s work are less common, and opportunities to be cast in one are extremely limited.
A new film adaptation of "The Tragedy of Macbeth" directed by Joel Coen of The Coen Brothers makes its world premiere at the New York Film Festival this Friday. It stars Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.
The Conversation’s Russell Subiono caught up with actor Scott Subiono who plays a supporting role in the film — full disclosure, they are cousins.
Scott Subiono grew up on Oʻahu and has been a working actor for over 20 years. The name may not ring a bell, but you've seen him in indie movies, national commercials for State Farm and Xbox and others, and television series like "CSI," Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and "Criminal Minds." He even made a trip home in 2013 when he was cast on "Hawaii Five-0."
He talked about starting his acting career as an adult, moving to Los Angeles, and the diversity in Hollywood these days.
Scott Subiono said he's currently working on two new projects that he can't talk about just yet — but he's excited for both.
