Chagrin Falls, Ohio –

Faced with a pandemic, safety concerns and dynamic new state regulations that could dash hopes for hosting a multi-day, large-scale indoor event, the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival is creating both in-person and online streaming experiences for its 11th annual festival to be held Oct. 6-11.

Planned are two outdoor venues in the village that adhere to CDC guidelines, including an LED screen in Riverside Park and an adapted drive-in theater location along with on-demand streaming to allow patrons full access to films from your own home.

New membership packages will be offered to bring in contributions to help sustain the festival. They will include reserved parking at the new Drive-in Docs venue, admittance to the films shown in the park and other perks, according to festival spokesperson Daniel Wingenfeld. Pricing and the full schedule of films will be available in September.

To help pay for these changes, CDFF received a special $500,000 grant in late June from The National Endowment for the Arts in support of the festival’s commitment to bring audiences and documentary film creators together in safe ways to watch some of the best films from around the world.

To advance its goal of promoting documentary filmmakers, CDFF is partnering with two organizations this year, PopDoc and Gravitas Ventures. PopDoc will help filmmakers entice a larger audience for short documentaries. PopDoc will select five CDFF short films to receive a paid social media advertising campaign, interviews on its podcast and be screened for a live audience on its live streaming venue. Gravitas will guarantee distribution to the winners of two CDFF categories at this year’s festival.

Among those pleased with CDFF’s “the show must go on” attitude is Chagrin Falls Mayor William Tomko.

“This festival brings in much needed stimulus to our restaurants and merchants and, it brings us together to discuss important topics in divisive times.”

CDFF attracted an audience of about 13,000 in 2019 and for the past eight consecutive years has been named to MovieMaker Magazine’s list of “Top 50 Festival Worth the Submission Fee,” which despite the title, is an honor. Contact chagrinfilmfest.org for updated information.
