TV and film production can resume in Phase Four.
And while building and completing sets gets underway Monday, shooting isn’t ready to commence yet, says Doug Steiner, chairman of New York’s largest film studio Steiner Studios.
“The industry has not figured out exactly how they’re going to deal with shooting and protecting the actors and dealing with background actors and extras,” Steiner told NY1.
Wardrobe, hair and makeup artists are preparing to return to set, but also must wait until the industry has come up with a plan.
And while production is kicking off, theaters across the city remain closed.
“Until they solve for opening movie theaters and cinemas, it’ll be direct-to-streaming and direct-to-TV,” said Steiner.
About 80 percent of households now subscribe to at least one streaming service, according to Deloitte. Subscribers during the pandemic have an average of four streaming services.
Steiner was a guest on NY1’s One New York Monday morning.
