Happy Dayz offers an evening of fun tonight (Thursday) at the American Dream Drive-In to help support the Backpack Blessings program, which provides weekend food “care packages” to elementary school children.

The gates open at 7:30 p.m. for fun and games ahead of the showing of the movie Jungle Cruise at about 9:15 p.m. Admission is $15 per carload (plus charges for food and beverages). The snack shop will be open.

As cars and people trickle in, familiar carnival games will be underway, including ring toss, fishing, bubble blowing, cornhole, photo booths and a toilet paper toss for adults.

“Lots of stuff to do,” said Marybeth Richardson of the Backpack Blessings board.

The Backpack Blessings program fills backpacks with basic food and snack items for the weekends for about 125 elementary school children in Powell.

The program is supported with funds from generous individuals, businesses, grants and fundraisers.

Members of the board of Backpack Blessings represent Union Presbyterian Church, Grace Point, First United Methodist Church, New Life Church and Faith Community Church. Board members include Jackie Hall, Diane Hensman, Judy Good, Linda Easum, Sharon Earhart, Sara Prescott and Richardson.

The first backpacks of the 2021-2022 school year will be filled about two weeks after the opening of fall classes.
