Tickets for the annual Jerusalem Film Festival went on sale Monday for the full lineup of international films being screened during the 11-day festival.
Ari Folman’s animated “Where is Anne Frank?” will open the event with an open-air screening at Sultan’s Pool, an amphitheater tucked under the Old City walls.
The festival, being held August 24 through September 4, will screen more than 100 full feature films, with winners from the major film festivals in Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Sundance.
Films will be screened in the Jerusalem Cinematheque, as well as at the local Lev and Smadar theaters.
There will also be free movies shown in Jerusalem neighborhoods using roving Film Trucks.
The films being shown at the festival include Cannes Grand Prix winner “Compartment No. 6,” about a train journey of a Finnish female student and a Russian worker across Russia to Murmans, and Cannes Palme D’Or winner “Titane,” a body horror thriller.
There’s also “Memoria,” the Cannes Grand Jury prize winner starring Tilda Swinton, about a woman visiting her sister in Bogota who can’t sleep after being awoken one morning by a mysterious sonic boom.
Other Cannes winners include “Annette,” a musical drama that won Best Director for Leon Carax, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
From the US is Sundance winner “Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),” about the Harlem Cultural Festival in the summer of 1969, when Black history, culture, music and fashion were celebrated during the same period as the renowned Woodstock music festival.
Other American films being screened at the Jerusalem festival include “Ailey,” about US modern dance great Alvin Ailey, and “Deception,” based on the film by American author Philip Roth.
“Mothering Sunday” is a long-awaited period drama featuring Colin Firth and Olivia Colman, a story based on the events of one day in post-World War I England.
