IPIC Dine-In Movie Theater Opens at Colony Square in Midtown, Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

Movie theater IPIC opens Thursday, December 17, at the redeveloping Colony Square complex on Peachtree Street in Midtown. The dine-in theater features nine screens and an on-site Italian restaurant and bar located next door called Serena Pastificio, opening early next year.

A representative tells Eater, that while Serena Pastificio will open for dine-in service and takeout, the restaurant’s menu won’t be available to order from at IPIC movie auditoriums. As for just what moviegoers can dine on while watching a flick, the IPIC menu includes everything from nachos, loaded tater tots, edamame, and cheddar drop biscuits, to margherita pizza, fish and chips, and lamb chops. Vegetarian options are also available, along with wine, beer, and cocktails and traditional movie snacks and candy.

Each of the nine theaters at IPIC vary in size, accommodating between 18 to 72 people, with smaller auditoriums offering “pod-style” seating meant to separate people from other parties. During the health crisis, all moviegoers are required to have their temperatures taken prior to entering the theater and must wear masks in common areas and when not eating or drinking. IPIC also temporarily paused its in-theater blanket and pillow service.

For now, the theater plans to only be open Thursday through Sunday to allow for thorough weekly cleanings. Online reservations for seats are highly encouraged.

After months-long shutdowns of movie theaters and film productions across the country due to the health crisis, a recent report indicates box office revenue could fall short by as much as $9 billion this year compared to 2019. With COVID-19 cases rising sharply again, and streaming services from HBO and WarnerMedia providing the capability to watch new releases such as Wonder Woman 1984 at home, it’s likely movie theaters will continue struggling to fill seats until the pandemic ends.

IPIC Theater and Serena Pastificio join Brown Bag Seafood Company and Establishment currently open at Colony Square. The complex is undergoing a multi-million dollar revamp, which includes a new 20,000-square-foot food hall called Politan Row, expected to open in 2021. In addition to the food hall, Colony Square will also eventually feature a new restaurant named Saints and Council, the relocated Holeman and Finch Public House, and a third Atlanta-area location of Persian restaurant Rumi’s Kitchen.
