Fox News Media Gets Into the Christmas Movie Game - Hollywood Reporter

kojongpana.blogspot.com

Fox Nation will debut an original movie, 'Christmas in the Rockies,' as it expands its original entertainment programming slate and takes on holiday stalwarts Hallmark and Netflix.

Christmas movies are big business. Just ask Hallmark Channel, or Netflix, or Lifetime, all of which have invested heavily in the light, seasonal fare.

Now, another player is looking to enter the increasingly crowded space: Fox News Media will debut is first original Christmas movie this year on its Fox Nation streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The film, Christmas in the Rockies, is being produced by Brain Power Studio in association with INSP Films and Fox Nation. The movie follows protagonist Katie Jolly, who has aspirations to leave her small town for a career in New York City, but ends up taking over the family's lumber business after a relative suffers an injury. There's also a love interest and a storyline involving a lumberjack competition (the trailer is here).

Fox & Friends co-hosts Steve Doocy and Ainsley Earhardt each make cameos in the film, which will be exclusive to the Fox-owned platform through November 2021. Fox Nation has also acquired the rights to two other holiday films: Christmas on the Coast and Christmas on the Range.

The movies come as Fox Nation continues to expand more into original entertainment and documentary programming, shifting away from the commentary-heavy lineup it had when it launched in late 2018. The company is betting that its approach to the genre staple will help drive holiday subscriptions.
