Oregonians who want to combine their love of movies and the outdoors have a new destination to keep in mind, thanks to the latest addition to the Oregon Film Trail. The trail, created by the Oregon Governor’s Office of Film & Television and the nonprofit Oregon Made Creative Foundation, features a collection of signs placed in various spots around the state. The signs commemorate movies that have filmed on location in the area, and add up to a celebration of Oregon’s film history.

The fifteenth sign on the Oregon Film Trail was recently installed in Silver Falls State Park, at the Howard Creek Trailhead parking lot near the campground. The sign notes that the movie “Twilight,” the human-falls-for-hunky-vampire love story adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novel, filmed on location in the park.

The 2008 movie, which starred Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, was the first in what became a blockbuster franchise. While “Twilight” filmed in several Oregon spots -- including Ecola State Park, on the Oregon Coast, site of another Oregon Film Trail sign -- the subsequent “Twilight Saga” features didn’t film in Oregon.

According to the Oregon film office, “Twilight” fans who stand next to the sign will be able to see behind them the location for the opening deer hunting scene in “Twilight,” as well as other scenes that filmed in the park.

In addition to “Twilight,” other features that filmed in Silver Falls State Park include “The Hunted,” the 2003 thriller starring Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio del Toro; a 1981 horror movie called “Just Before Dawn,” that starred George Kennedy; and “Yogi Bear,” a 2010 live action and animated feature inspired by the cartoon series, which included opening scenes filmed at the park.

More than 500 feature films and TV shows have filmed on location in Oregon, according to the Oregon film office. The Oregon Film Trail has recognized such examples as “The Goonies,” “Point Break,” “Kindergarten Cop,” “Sometimes a Great Notion,” “Free Willy,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Stand By Me” and “Short Circuit.”

Other places to see Oregon Film Trail signs include Astoria, Gleneden Beach, Ecola State Park, Hammond Marina/Warrenton, Brownsville, Athena, and Salem.

According to the Oregon Film office, other Oregon areas due to have new Oregon Film Trail signs installed in the near future are Smith Rock State Park; Cottage Grove; Toledo; Ashland; Burns; Wallowa Lake State Park; and Joseph.
