Movie theaters are expected to reopen in Phase Four. and Pukos says during the shutdown they've been trying to do what they can to keep some business running. Still, he says they're ready to re-open.
As of now, no official guidelines have come out from the state on what measures movie theaters will have to take, but Pukos says safety is top of mind.
“We do know that we'll have people physically distancing in the theater," he says. "Probably we will black off some seats, [but] again we don't know exactly what that will look like."
At the Cinema Theater, co-owner Audrey Kramer said when it comes to concessions, no long lines will be allowed.
“[We're] excited but nervous, trying to figure out what the rules will be and what we will have to do,” Kramer says.
Kramer says that aside from the rules that will be required by the state, they are implementing their own protocols.
“Normally we have goods out that people can touch and grab but we're going to put them behind the plexiglass and they'll just have to kind to point to what they want,” Kramer says.
Kramer said plexiglass barriers will be installed up front near the concession stand is. Sticky notes will be given to people to socially distance within their seats, while those without masks will be provided with one. They are also placing six feet apart signs on the floors throughout the theater.
“We’ll probably wait a couple days just to absorb all the new rules and stuff to make sure we can abide by them and [then] maybe [have] a slow opening like Friday, Saturday and Sunday and see how that goes and go from there,” Kramer says.
Among the national chains,, AMC Theaters said last week it had substantial doubt that it could continue operations for an extended period.
