Story

Pulling from one of America’s most celebrated pastimes of yesteryear and providing a safe form of physically distanced entertainment, the BECU Drive-in Movies at Marymoor Park is offering a welcomed summer attraction. Events happen every Wednesday and Thursday from July 8 through Aug. 27 and include big screen movie viewing from the privacy of your own vehicle. Food trucks will be on hand for the pleasure of foodies.

Opening night is July 8 featuring the timeless 1989 comedy “Back to the Future 2” followed on July 9 with the 1987 romantic drama “Dirty Dancing.” The series continues with sci-fi action in “Jurassic Park” on July 15, and an all-time drive-in classic “Grease” on July 16.

On July 22 “Hidden Figures” tells the incredible true story of brilliant African-American women working at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn. On July 9, “School of Rock” stars Jack Black as Dewey Finn, a substitute teacher who tries to turn his class into a rock band.

The final two showings in July include the 2019 hit “Knives Out” on July 29, a whodunit comedy about a family gathering gone awry, followed on July 30 with the animated comedy love story of “Shrek,” an ornery ogre who sets out to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona after his solitude is shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. Movie selections for August will be announced at a later time.

Tickets are $25 per carload and can be purchased at www.MoviesatMarymoor.com. Each ticket includes parking for one vehicle and the guests that arrive in the vehicle. Everyone must have a seat belt. No RVs, buses, limousines or walk-ups will be allowed. All attendees are asked to remain in their vehicle except to visit the restrooms or concessions, wear a face mask when out of the car and always practice six-foot physical distancing.

“We are excited to offer drive-in movies and provide a fun and safe entertainment option for the summer,” said the event’s producer Doug Borneman of Epic Events. “It’s been a tough spring for the world, and we are really looking forward to bringing back such a celebrated pastime. We need everyone to do their part to follow the rules so we can keep it safe and have an amazing summer.

“I would especially like to thank our title sponsor, BECU, and Seattle Children’s, Warm 106.9, MOViN 92.5, and 98.9 The Bull for being such great partners and sticking with us while we figured this out,” said Borneman. “And we would not be able to do this without the dedication and support from King County Parks and everything they have done to help us get here.”
