MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — No one was hurt after a shooting Friday night inside a Twin Cities movie theater.
The Plymouth Police Department says that someone walked into the lobby of the Emagine Willow Creek theater and fired off at least two rounds. So far, no one is in custody.
Tony Livingston, the theater’s general manager, said that no one was hurt. The theater has since been evacuated and closed for the night.
This shooting comes less than a week after a mass shooting inside a St. Paul bar left one woman dead and 14 people injured.
Malinda, who did not want to share her last name, and her family were in line to buy their ticket to the premiere of the horror movie, Halloween Kills, when the shooting started in the lobby.
“He just pulled the gun out, and he fired the first shot above everyone like a warning shot, that’s when everyone scattered and took off running, and then it was almost in slow motion, he aimed the gun at the crowd and shot again,” said Malinda.
She described the shooter firing his gun the second time at a group of teenagers.
“Seeing the guy just aim the gun at the crowd, I thought, ‘Oh my god, one of these kids is going to get shot,’ and by the grace of God…he missed everyone,” said Malinda.
She is shocked no one was hurt, but when she saw the bullet hole afterward, she knew it was a close call for her.
“The bullet hole was four inches from where I was standing,” said Malinda.
Katrina Loera was about two minutes into a movie at Willow Creek Theater when the screen went blank, and police rushed in to usher her and a friend out of the theater. She’s still in disbelief over how close she was to an active shooter.
“I don’t think we’ll be going there ever again,” said Loera, who says she’s even more shocked no one died in this shooting.
“We all got extremely lucky and it wasn’t our time. I hope that everyone who was there with me in that theater, [see this as] an eye-opener that life is too short and we should live it to our full potential,” said Loera.
Plymouth police have not made any arrests, but investigators say they’ve spoken with witnesses who told them they know who the shooter was.
