The popular gangster series, “Peaky Blinders,” is set to end with its upcoming sixth season.
But don’t take your newsboy caps off just yet—there’s supposedly a movie in the works.
Deadline reports that the show’s creator, Steven Knight, softened the blow of announcing the show’s conclusion by promising the story will continue “in another form.” While Deadline admits that nothing is formalized yet, the publication confirms that Knight told them, “COVID changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end “Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”
“Peaky Blinders” made its debut on BBC Two in 2013 and has since then garnered immense popularity plus a 2018 BAFTA TV award for Best Drama Series to boot. The show follows Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, who leads the titular Peaky Blinders gang in Birmingham during the early 1900s.
The main cast of “Peaky Blinders” additionally includes esteemed actress Helen McCrory as Aunt Polly; Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby; and Finn Cole as Michael Gray. The show has also featured other acclaimed actors such as Tom Hardy, Sam Neil, and Aiden Gillen.
While technically a period piece, many fans became enamored of the way “Peaky Blinders” uses modern music as its soundtrack against a gritty city backdrop. Murphy’s performance of Tommy, too, has added to the series’ popularity.
There’s also the matter of many an American fan attempting for themselves to do a Birmingham accent properly which, if you can, very impressive.
You can currently stream the series for yourself—by order of the Peaky Blinders—on Netflix.
