For the first time, European Film Promotion will collaborate with the Sundance Film Festival to promote European films and talent at the 2021 event at Park City.

European Film Promotion (EFP) and the Sundance Film Festival have announced their first-ever collaboration, which will see European films and talent in the spotlight at the 2021 festival, set for January 28 —February 3.

EFP, a group that promotes European films and filmmakers at international events, such as the European Shooting Stars at the Berlin Film Festival, will set up a virtual Europe! Hub on Sundance's festival platform, primarily to target North American distributors interested in new Euro titles.

There are a dozen European films and co-productions in the 2021 Sundance line-up, including the world premieres of Spanish drama El Planeta from director Amalia Ulman, Hive from Kosovar filmmaker Blerta Basholli, and Luzzu, the debut feature from Maltese director Alex Camilleri.

Among the featured European documentaries are Camilla Nielsson's President, set during recent Zimbabwean elections, the animated doc Flee from Danish director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, and Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri's The Most Beautiful Boy in the World, a profile of Swedish actor Bjorn Andresen (Death in Venice), which Juno Films picked up ahead of its Park City debut.

European Film Promotion will also host a panel on co-producing between the US and Europe. EFP on Monday also announced financial support for the digital promotion campaigns of Hive, The Most Beautiful Boy in the World, and Ronny Trocker's German home invasion drama Human Factors. LevelK is handling world sales on Hive, Films Boutique is selling The Most Beautiful Boy in the World, and Human Factors is being sold by Heretic Outreach. The support comes from EFP's financial tool Film Sales Support and will go towards the online marketing and promotion of the films.

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival will be held almost entirely online due to the coronavirus pandemic. The entire festival slate of 71 feature films, 50 shorts, and virtual-reality and augmented-reality offerings will be screened online, as will virtual question and answer sessions and panels with directors and talent. Sundance is also hosting an online festival village for accredited guests.
