BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Dark, brisk fall nights swarm with rumors of headless horsemen and a pumpkin spice scented breeze, while many find warmth under thick wool blankets and comfort in the scariest of movies. Stories of witches on broomsticks lurk under the full moon while children whisper about the most haunted house in town. The essence of Halloween is found in crimson leaves and ghost stories, but for those who prefer happy endings rather than horrific plotlines, scary movies are the opposite of getting in the mood for the season. These 5 spooky movies are perfect for even the tamest of spirits who aren’t ready to say goodbye to Halloween.

  1. Hocus Pocus 1993 - This iconic story begins in Salem, Massachusetts when three teenagers explore an abandoned house and awaken a coven of witches who used to live there. The plot continues as the teenagers try to stop the witches from becoming immortal with the help of a cursed black cat and a spellbook.  Filled with exciting twists and a surprise musical number, it is no shock Hocus Pocus is one of the most famous Halloween movies made.

  2. The Corpse Bride 2005 - In this film animated by the renowned Tim Burton, Victor practices vows for an arranged marriage to his wealthy fiance Victoria. While saying his vows in the woods, the hand of Emily, a bride who was murdered after marrying her true love, reaches and pulls Victor into the underworld. Emily quickly falls in love with Victor, but he must return to the world of the living before Victoria marries an evil suitor.
