KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- Preston Brown is typically pretty busy on Saturday nights as people make their way to the Hounds Drive-In Theatre all the way in Kings Mountain to enjoy a classic movie.
The Hounds Drive-In is always busy in the summer time but, since COVID-19 hit, Brown says his business has exploded.
“Now we’re doing things through the week like concerts, graduations...church services," he said.
He says this year he’s had several promoters contact him wanting to utilize his drive-in for concerts, so he’s had to make a few adjustments.
“I installed fiber optics from the screen all the way to the projector building, so there’s no wires that would be laying on the ground," he said. "So, when we send videos for the concerts up or sound there’s no wires laying on the ground.”
Janey Ollis has worked at the drive-in since it first opened in 2016 and never imagined the theater would be as busy as it is now.
“It’s been awesome to watch it grow and bloom and see how many people come every weekend," she said. "Doesn’t matter if they’ve seen the movies, they just enjoy coming to the drive-in and that’s exciting to me.”
One visitor, Emily Lowder, has been coming to the theater throughout the summer and says it’s been a nice break away from COVID-19.
While the movie season for Preston’s business is slowly starting to come to an end, he says people could be seeing more concerts and other events lasting throughout the rest of this year.
Brown says he’ll make announcements for new concerts at the theater later on this week.
