Lindsay Lohan is back working on a movie set and has revealed she "couldn't be happier" as fans celebrate her return to the big screen.

The 2000s teen movie icon is back in her first big acting role in years and a sneak peek of the production has sent fans into a tizzy on social media.

The 35-year-old is currently filming a Netflix Christmas movie that is set for release for the 2022 festive season.

Called Untitled Holiday Rom-Com for now, Lohan stars opposite Chord Overstreet in the romantic comedy, playing a "newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress."

"Back at work and couldn't be happier! Action! πŸŽ₯🎬🍿πŸ₯° @netflix @netflixfamily," Lohan tweeted along with a still from the film.

The movie is set to contain loads of festive rom-com staples, skiing, amnesia, precocious children and handsome blue-collar inn owners.

Netflix's logline reads: "A newly engaged and spoiled hotel heiress who finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner and his precocious daughter after getting total amnesia in a skiing accident."

Marking the end of Lohan's Hollywood hiatus has been exciting for fans of the former teen star who have been hyping her up on social media.

"So excited to see you back acting again Lindsay. It's been too long. I still pray and wish you the best. Stay strong, don't listen to negative comments, and be happy always. Looking forward to seeing all your new stuff," wrote one fan.

While another added: "Wow beautiful! Looking forward to your success every step of the way, because every step is a success!"

Lohan withdrew from her acting career when opportunities diminished due to issues in her personal life that saw her convicted for driving offenses and spending time in rehab for substance abuse.

The actress previously shared her wish to return to acting, telling Anderson Cooper in 2019 that she wants to return to the life she had "worked so hard" to carve out for herself since she was a child actor in films like The Parent Trap.

During a New Year's Eve 2019 appearance on CNN, Lohan, who had been living in Dubai, told Cooper and co-host Andy Cohen that she wanted to "come back to America and start filming again."

When asked if she had any new year's resolutions, she added: "Just taking back the life that I worked so hard for, and sharing it with my family and you guys."

The film also stars George Young, Jack Wagner and Olivia Perez. It's directed by Janeen Damian of the Hallmark Channel's A Christmas Waltz fame.
