May 24 - 29, 2011 | In celebration of the Texas Film Commission's 40th Anniversary, the TFC partnered with the Paramount Austin for a week-long celebration of Texas films as part of the Paramount's annual Summer Classic Film Series.
Looking back into our marketing materials of that time, we found a collection of notes and fun facts surrounding the films that screened as a part of the series:
- Silkwood | First feature to use the Studios at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.
- The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas | Premiered in Austin on July 11, 1982 at the Paramount Theatre, with cast in attendance and a parade on Congress Avenue.
- There Will Be Blood | First public screening was at the 2007 Fantastic Fest in Austin.
- The Sugarland Express | One of the first features assisted by the Texas Film Commission.
- Spy Kids | Premiered in Austin on March 24, 2001 at the Paramount Theatre, with cast in attendance and a carnival on Congress Avenue.
- True Grit | The Memphis train station set was created in the eastern wing of the Texas State Capitol Building. Filming took place on May 28, 2010.
- Dazed And Confused | The TFC assisted Richard Linklater in 1990 with his movie Slacker.
